There’s no doubt that colour provokes some though process and as writes Susan Kariuki getting the right colour from the range of colours speaks volumes of creativity.

WITHOUT A DOUBT, COLOUR DEFINES OUR WORLD. It is sensational and is usually seen before imagery. The power behind colour influences mood and feeling. It cheers and depresses, stimulates and tranquilizes, provokes and antagonizes. It may course strain and tension, it can also enrich the environment reduce boredom and prevent accidents.

Colour selection

Since colour evolves into virtually all realms of human life and culture and affects us emotionally it has to be selected carefully. For one, it is used in making things warm or cold, it is provocative or sympathetic, exciting or tranquil, colour enriches the world and our perception of it. Simply put a colorless world is almost unimaginable.

One important study consisted of offering nursery-school children a choice of yellow or brown crayons with which to depict happy and sad stories. A significant number chose yellow for the happy and brown for the sad suggesting that colour preferences are innate. Children up to the age of three almost universally prefer primary colours over pastel shades.

Colour selection should not be guesswork, from finding colour inspiration to deciding where to put each hue should be selected using a colour wheel and swatches depending on your theme to find the perfect color harmony, balance and control.

More than any other element of design, colour has the ability to make us aware of what we see, for nothing has meaning without colour. Colour includes black and white, try to describe the sky without referring colour, it is very difficult,

Color study is under taught yet it is an ever evolving field. There is now more color in our lives than ever before. More publications are produced in colour, computers, printers, web design all viewed in illuminated colour.

For you to understand colour a hands-on study in color and design is invaluable. We cannot learn to be artists, beauty, fashion, interior, graphic designers, by simply listening to lectures or reading books. It is important that practical and theory should go hand in hand and are accessible to all, because this provides a broad base knowledge that demystifies the complex world of color.

Like music color has infinite variety,

1          Artist must know the intensity of colour and how to combine for cohesion

2          Fashion designers must know which color palette goes with individual skin tones

3          Interiors designers must advice clients which colors harmonies etc.

The terms used in the colour basics are used by all the above and chefs and cooks included. In the study of colour children have been popular guinea-pigs in attempts to discover if and to what extent, human response to colour is inborn or culturally conditioned.

Whatever colours you choose, they must create harmony, and proportion, they should be cohesive some form of pleasing visual unity between colours is a must.
