The reality of a transformed space surfaces as the depth of the real picture distinguishes the uniqueness of Décor Interiors and Design Studio, writes KAMNI MEHTA.

DECOR INTERIORS new showroom and design studio located at Eldama Park off Eldama Ravine Road in Nairobi emerges as an interior environment that’s defined by it’s architecture and the layers of design that deepen the transformation of the space in perfect harmony. These design layers or elements consist of lighting, colour, surface textures and furnishings.

Here, simplicity is in powerful play. Design is lively, delighting the mind’s eye at every turn. All areas that function effectively to fulfil their purpose, be it the Showroom, Design Studio, Meeting Rooms or Director’s Office, flow into each other creating a design synergy.

Earthiness of the interiors

Lines are contemporary and treated purely with natural materials that underline the earthiness of the interiors. The spaces are immersed in natural light and a surrounding backdrop of trees, which is befitting the range of Furniture and Lighting showcased here.

The design of the Interior perfectly accommodates the Company’s range of products manufactured in Kenya. The sisal used to create the products is sourced directly from a programme that supports individual weavers who sustainably extract the fibre from sisal plants that are up to 2 years of age for a softer fibre feel.

After being treated to build moisture resistance and then thoroughly dried, the sisal strands are twisted into a rope of varying diameters. In the Company’s workshops based in Nairobi, each metre of sisal is quality checked. After the sisal has been woven onto the frames, a preservative is applied to seal the fibre. The weaving technique allows the natural fibres to be slightly flexible, unlike wood, which enhances comfort when when sitting or lying.

There’s been local and international accolade for the designs and quality of manufacturing.

Eco conscious design

Trademark quality of the products and interior design consultancy services offered by Dècor Interiors Ltd, is the absence of the use of hardwoods. The Company’s role in supporting eco conscious design through sustainable use of materials, lighting options and services that conserve energy, is exemplified here. The company recognises the importance of sensitising Clients to the positive impact of sustainable design and accordingly assists in guiding design decisions.

There is a wide selection of good quality laminated and engineered wood floorings available in the country. Locally manufactured ceramic tiles offer an effective solution too as energy that is consumed in the transportation of imported goods is immense. Local manufacturing supports livelihoods for Kenyans.

The company is partly driven by Sara Friedman’s inspirational sentiments: “What we do matters to us. Work may not be the most important thing in our lives or the only thing. We may work because we must, but we still want to love, to feel pride in, to respect ourselves for what we do and to make a difference.”

The results of the creative role of design is holistic in terms of the sensory experience as well as the function of the space at Decor Interiors Ltd. Clients are treated to an experience whereby the finished product represents the working ethos of the Company. A picture speaks a thousand words. Indeed this is authentic from any perspective in the interior environment.

The Company’s portfolio of works is testimony to the commitment to design excellence in the 21st century.
