ORANGE IS THE NEW WHITE.

When thinking of painting an interior space, a few colours instantly come to mind; white, being the most obvious one; and if not white, most people would prefer something similar to it, like cream or a lighter shade of pink, blue or green. These are often considered more ‘fitting’.

Rarely do home-owners ever think of painting a room – or any of their walls – orange.

And yet orange has quite a number of positive qualities that can completely transform an interior space!

Orange is the colour of joy, energy and vibrancy, a colour that resonates with happiness and laughter. As a mixture of red and yellow, it acts as a great balance between boldness and liveliness. Most people are unaware of how much life and warmth it can bring into a room and how much fun it invites into an otherwise dull space!

Despite its positive qualities, choosing the right shade of orange is just as important as deciding to use the colour orange itself in your interior . It’s important to choose a shade that you love, a shade that you won’t find repulsive in a matter of weeks, months or even years. In the right place a loud orange, like burnt orange or cold Persian Orange, can work perfectly; but for those who are put off by loud colours there are softer shades of orange, such as apricot, peach and salmon.

The very courageous can paint all walls in their room orange; while those experimenting can try painting one or two walls orange, buying an orange sofa set or something less permanent like a small carpet, a rug or orange accessories.

Orange exudes fun, joy and playfulness; it also encourages social interaction and stimulates the appetite. Therefore it is best suited for game rooms, play rooms and even a dining area.

Using too much orange is never advisable. So start by using it in small doses. Cushions are a good way to throw in some range in your living room; while an orange duvet cover and pillow cases are a great way to spice up your bedroom.
