Architectural acumen, engineering ingenuity, innovative mind, and safety is the wholesome package that gives Eng. Adnan Saffarini and team an enviable distinction in actualizing breathtaking buildings writes OLIVER OWUOR.
BARAKA HOTEL ON BIASHARA STREET has caused a huge stir in the Kenyan building market though interested clients still have to wait a little longer to see its completion.
Word also has spread about the prospects of similar developments in Algeria. But that doesn’t compare with the most audacious plan intended to transform Nairobi and other cities into Dubai-like enclaves, with ultramodern towers oozing of style and breathtaking design. This is what Eng. Adnan Saffarini, a firm that is based in Dubai but with branches in a number of countries, has set out to achieve in the coming years.
Transforming the skyline
The Nairobi office, which is headed by the Regional Director for Africa, Mr. Mahad Karani, has done feasibility for a number of projects within Kenya and the region, and is currently offering laying the foundation for the achievement of a broader mandate to transform the continent’s skyline.
The firm is a one-stop shop in as far as architectural design, engineering services, project management and supervision is concerned, and has elaborate methodologies it uses to execute projects. It has architects, interior designers, electrical engineers, structural engineers, amongst others and the necessary skill sets needed to ensure projects are thoughtfully conceptualized and completed.
“Ours is to take on a project, work on it and hand over the keys to the client upon completion,” says Mr. Karani. “The firm is a professional entity with a huge reputation across the world for undertaking some of the most imposing projects ever seen such as the Princess Tower which has been cited as the World’s largest residential tower in the world.”
Strength on creativity
It is these finesse that the firm is bringing into the construction of Baraka Hotel as well as the largest Mall in Africa. The firm’s strength has been on creative design, which has featured some of the prominent palaces across the UAE. “We pride ourselves in designing concepts for prospective clients, which concepts are then put into consideration should a client make preference for the same,” Mr. Karani says.
Interior design has become a very crucial division within the firm, and the company is currently offering clients not only a concept of the exterior of their intended projects, but also a 3D animation of the interiors, taking into consideration all elements that are at play when designing the interior.
This, Mr. Karani says, is a sure way of ensuring every project undertaken by Saffarini is completely successful. It also eliminates cases of complexities that may arise as a result of subcontracting.
“Our teams work together on all projects to ensure all factors and elements at play have been properly synthesized, and the ultimate designed harnessed with little or no complexities whatsoever.” Some of the projects the firm has/ is handling in this region include the Juba Palace and Resort as well as other numerous residential and commercial units across the continent.
In Dubai, the firm is reputed for putting up the imposing 107 floors Princess Tower, which is the tallest residential tower in the world, the 92 floors Elite Tower in Marsa Dubai and the 64 floors AlAttar tower, a five star hotel under the management of the millennium group. The firm also holds the credit for the construction of the Al-Zaher Palace which is owned by His Highness Sheik Rashed al Noeimi. The palace was eventually printed on UAE’s 50 Dirham bank note.
Cases of complexities
The firm adheres to very high standards for development of building projects, Mr Karani says. “We want our clients to have as many options as possible from which to pick a fitting concept for their project needs. That is why we are in this market, to corroborate into practice some of the best international standards of practice, a sure way of ensuring every project undertaken by Saffarini is completely successful.
